Cardiovascular Assessment

Cardiovascular Assessment

Cardiovascular disease is responsible for 40% of deaths (often premature and preventable) in New Zealand each year.

In safety critical roles or where sudden incapacity can have a significant affect on the workers and others safety, it is important to assess the cardiovascular system and risk.

The assessment involves a thorough history, blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, non-fasting lipid profile, HbA1c or fasting glucose, and serum creatinine.

Based on the assessment, the nurse can provide information on risk management and also refer to the worker’s primary care provider with consent.
